Rishabh Pant Should Be Compared With Best Batters, Not With Adam Gilchrist: R Ashwin

Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin sheds light on Rishabh Pant's batting approach; the dynamic wicketkeeper-batter's five-match test series is going quite well. Pant turned out to be one of India's most dependable match winners in Test cricket, delivering it the time when it mattered the most. His ability to play for in crucial situations has really helped the team recover from crucial situations.

The wicketkeeper batter scored twin centuries at Headingley, Leeds, and became the second wicketkeeper to achieve this milestone after Andy Flower. After that, in the second test at Edgbaston, he scored 65 runs off 58 balls in the second innings; his efforts also played a crucial role in the 336-run victory.

He achieved the milestone of becoming the first Asian wicketkeeper batter to smash 2,000 Test runs in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). His aggressive and fearless batting is one of the top reasons that help India in crucial situations and dominate the opposition bowlers.

Recently in a video shared by R. Ashwin on his YouTube channel, he stated,

"I would like to see Rishabh Pant achieve his potential. We want him to entertain us, but he can do that and show restraint when needed. Pant is not a newbie anymore. I want to benchmark Pant to his standards."

Further, Ashwin stated that in the whole Indian camp he is the only one who is a blend of both attacking and defensive batting, which makes him a rare talent. He also addressed the frequent comparisons between former Australian legend Adam Gilchrist and Pant.

He said,

"He is a fabulous player. He's not Adam Gilchrist; many compare him to Gilchrist. He didn't have such a good defense. Pant has a high-quality defense. He should be compared with some of the best batters, not Gilchrist. Rishabh Pant can do Pant things."
