Yuvraj Is Also Feeling The same: Yograj Singh Calls Shubman Gill's Dismissal A 'Crime'
The Indian skipper Shubman Gill went through a lot at the time he was announced as the captain after senior players retirement. But all the criticism, doubts, and questions were put to rest by Gill after he smashed a century on his debut match as captain in Leeds and now on day 2 of the second test at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Thursday. With the help of Gill's knock, India was able to put up such a high score of 587 runs in the first innings. Despite the pitch being batting-friendly, Gill did not lose concentration and, more importantly, threw away a golden opportunity of smashing 300. Yashasvi Jaiswal's 87 and Ravindra Jadeja's 89 contributed with their bat, and even Washington Sundar played a crucial knock of 42 runs in such a high score.
In the end of the game for India, Daddy Hundred came from their newest captain, Gill, shutting the mouths of everyone who trolled him for his performances in SENA countries.
At the moment the whole cricketing world is in praise of Shubman Gill for his incredible performance, but former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, father of one of the best Indian cricketers, Yuvraj Singh, was a bit disappointed as he fell short in completing his triple century. To that, Yograj called it a crime to lose a wicket in such a crucial stage of his knock, stating that his son Yuvraj Singh also felt pain on Gill's dismissal.
He said,
"I am glad that whatever Yuvraj has achieved in his life, he is giving it back to the players by coaching them. Gill, Abhishek, and Arshdeep have been his trainees. When Shubman Gill was batting on 200, I wanted him to remain 250 not out. But when the batter gets out, then I am pained. Yuvraj is also feeling the same. He has realized that getting out after such a big score is a crime. When you are 200 not out, 250 not out, or 300 not out—when you have not out against your name—then all your mistakes are improved. Secondly, a lot was being said about Shubman Gill. To them, I just want to say..…Please, if you haven't played cricket, don't talk about it. Gill has worked on his top hand."
Shubman Gill, along with Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh, has learned their skills from Yuvraj Singh for years, and Yograj Singh feels very proud on seeing them progressing and doing well in their careers. He also stated that learning is a lifelong art, citing how India's cricketing legends have been hard on themselves when they let particular opportunities slip from their hands.
He said,
"Yuvraj knows how to make players. Players should learn from Yuvraj and Gautam Gambhir. They will scold players too, irrespective of how many runs you've scored or wickets you've taken. Sachin Tendulkar used to scold himself. Sunil Gavaskar would leave the nets if he got out. People become great because even when they play big innings, they go back and reflect on it, examining what they did wrong. Gill can achieve greater things. He could score 300, 400... If Brian Lara can score 500 not out, then we can too."
"He has always had an issue regarding his right hand, but I spoke to Yuvi three days ago, and he told me, 'Papa, his right-hand issue has improved drastically.'" He can score more runs. I keep telling him not to get out. The cover drives he played on the rise, head on top of the ball, he adjusted his right hand. It was perfect. I am told he is batting like magic because of the slight changes he is consistently making."
