One-Hundred Wonder: Sanjay Manjrekar's Blunt Take On Indian Star Batter Ahead Of Second Test
Team India started the five-match Test series against England with a defeat, but we got to see a lot of positive points in it as well; just like everything has two aspects, we got to see the same in the Indian team. India’s top order performed very well, but the lower order was seen failing very badly in the opening series at Leeds. The young guns Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored centuries in the first test, while Rishabh Pant, who had not been in form for the past few months, scored centuries in both the innings of the first test and impressed everyone a lot with his performance.
On this, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Pant will continue his form in the second test against England. He also said that Rahul is left with no choice but to maintain his form, just like in the first test in the whole series.
He said,
"I think Rishabh Pant will maintain his form in the second game as well because it seems that he likes batting in Test cricket. Any batsman who scores two centuries in a Test match has to do a lot physically to score a century in the first innings, but 48 hours later you have the same reserve to score another century. So this is the mark of an exceptional player."
Further, Manjrekar said,
"Rishabh Pant enjoys test matches very much. He has not scored enough runs. So he has hunger. I think Pant will maintain his form, but there is another senior batsman in the team who now has no choice but to maintain his form in the series. Indian cricket needs him desperately, and KL Rahul cannot be a player who can score a century or perform well in a Test match."
In the second test, Shubman Gill & Co. will try their best to win the Edgbaston test and level the series, which will start from 2 July. But it may be a bit difficult for the team to win this match because there are high chances that India's finest pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, may miss the second test. In the first test, Bumrah was the only bowler who impressed the whole bowling unit the most with his performance.
Now Jofra Archer has also entered the England squad, which may increase India's problems. If Archer plays in the Birmingham test, then the Indian batsmen will have to face difficulties.
