Even Babar Azam Was Laughing: Rohit Sharma Shares Comical Moment From T20 World Cup 2024
Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri is such a personality whose aura can't be matched by anyone ever. During the 80s, he was known a lot for his batting, and after that, he was appointed the coach of Team India from 2017 to 2021. During his coaching tenure, India won big series like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in 2021 with a lead of 2-1, which also includes the most iconic win, the Gabba Test. He is very famous for his performance as a player and coach, but there is one more thing for which he gets the most love, and that is his energy when he comes to conduct the toss during the match. His bold voice and introduction of both the teams during the toss are the things that people like a lot.
Recently, India's ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, remembered a very funny moment from the T20 World Cup 2024, where his match was against Pakistan in New York.
Rohit said that during the toss he was so lost in Shastri's introduction that he forgot that the coin was in his hand and everyone was waiting for when he would flip the coin. He also revealed that at this moment his opposition teammate Babar Azam also started laughing.
In a recently concluded interview, Rohit said,
"Look at Ravi Shastri; I was enjoying this thing. In the middle of everything, seeing Ravi Shastri's energy, I forgot that I have the coin. Even Babar Azam was laughing. In the blue jersey, there is Rohit Sharma, who is ready to punch. In the green jersey, Babar is ready to counterpunch; it was all fun."
If we go a little back to that match, then on that day India managed to score only 119 runs when they were invited to bat first. However, no one imagined what happened after that. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah broke the backbone of Pakistan's batting lineup with his brilliant spells. In that match, he gave away 14 runs, taking 3 wickets, and restricted Pakistan to 113 runs, winning the match by 6 runs.
After that, no one can forget the finals. India won the ICC T20 World Cup trophy after 13 years under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, defeating South Africa by 7 runs.
