Greg Chappell Lauds Rishabh Pant's Innovative Batting Style In Leeds Test
Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant has once again proved that he can completely change the game in every format of cricket, and recently it was seen in Test cricket. In the first Test match against England, Pant surprised everyone by scoring centuries in both innings. First he scored 134 runs (178 balls, 12 fours, and 6 sixes), and then 118 runs in the second innings (140 balls, 15 fours, and 3 sixes). Although India lost the match by the margin of five wickets, Pant's performance dominated the entire match and English bowlers.
Former Australian captain and Indian coach Greg Chappell praised Pant and said that he is a player who is playing cricket in a new way. Chappell says that Pant plays such shots, which are not found in traditional cricket books. He said,
"When I saw Pant play for the first time, he reminded me of Adam Gilchrist, even though he plays in a slightly different style."
Chappell also said that the special thing about Pant is that he scores runs quickly, which gives the team time to win the match. He said,
"There were some shots that were not possible with the old-fashioned bats. But now the technique has changed, and Pant is taking advantage of that and playing the game in a new way."
Chappell described Pant's unpredictability as a plus point for the team. He said that no one knows what Pant is going to do on the next ball—he can attack the fast bowler or even take out a new shot. This always keeps the opposing team under pressure.
In this match, the new captain of the Indian Test team, Shubman Gill, also got an opportunity to show his capabilities. Chappell praised Gill and said that even though India lost, there is a lot of potential in Gill's captaincy and batting.
He said,
"The match may not have gone in India's favor, but the team did many good things. Gill's leadership and thinking seemed quite mature."
Chappell also added that if India had not dropped some catches and the last batsmen had stayed a little longer, the result of the match could have been different. He hoped that Gill would learn from the experience and become better.
