Ben Stokes Praises Team After England's Thrilling Win Over India

England Achieves Historic Run Chase in Thrilling Test Win Over India
Published on:

Ben Stokes' England made the first test to their name by chasing a huge score of 372 runs in the Headingley test on Tuesday and defeated India by 5 wickets. After yesterday's win, the host team conducted the 10th highest successful run chase in Test history, in which proper planning and execution of plans with complete confidence were seen. Even if we talk about the fifth day, the pitch seemed to be in favor of the Indian bowlers, especially in the morning and afternoon sessions. England's openers Ben Duckett and Zack Crawley formed a very good partnership of 188 runs, which became a big reason for England winning the first test. The highlight of the match was created by Jamie Smith when he hit a beautiful six over long-on to seal the win.

Speaking about England's performance, captain Ben Stokes praised his team and gave full credit to his bowlers for dismissing India's lower order early.

He said,

"It was all down to our attitude and commitment. That's what we focused on. Both teams played quality cricket, and it was a great way to start the series."

Further, he said,

"It was a very good wicket to bat on. The way we outplayed the Indian tailenders was a big reason why we were able to chase this score."

After remaining wicketless in the morning sessions, Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur became the bowlers who gave India the breakthrough in the afternoon. When Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Ben Stokes after tea, the team still needed 69 runs to win.

However, Joe Root and Jamie Smith very calmly guided England to victory at home and did not give India a chance to win.

With this win, England leads with 1-0 in the series. The second test will be played in Birmingham, commencing on July 2.

After getting the lead in the series, Ben Stokes said,

"We are leading 1-0 but still have 4 tests left. We will celebrate and then immediately shift our focus to the Birmingham test."
