Prithvi Shaw Bids Farewell To Mumbai, Awaits New Chapter In New Team
The Indian batter Prithvi Shaw has finally ended his long journey with the Mumbai cricket team. On Monday, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) gave him a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for another domestic team. This means that now Prithvi will be seen playing for a new team, and his almost decade-old relationship with Mumbai is over.
Why did he leave Mumbai?
Prithvi Shaw was out of Mumbai's playing XI for some time, especially in red ball cricket. However, he made a comeback in the white ball format and participated in big tournaments like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But due to disagreements over team selection, fitness, and off-field controversies, his coordination with the Mumbai team gradually deteriorated.
MCA said in its statement,
“Prithvi Shaw had expressed his desire to play for another team as a professional player, and we decided to give him an NOC. He has made a significant contribution to Mumbai cricket, and we wish him all the best for his future.”
Can Maharashtra become the new team?
According to the reports, Prithvi can now play for the Maharashtra team. If this happens, he will take the field under the leadership of Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Ruturaj captains Maharashtra in domestic cricket, and when he is not in Team India, he is a part of the domestic season.
The pairing of Ruturaj and Prithvi can be interesting, as both are young, bat aggressively, and can score big. The arrival of an experienced player like Prithvi in the Maharashtra team will strengthen the top order.
How was the last season with Mumbai?
Prithvi was dropped from the team at the start of the 2024/25 Ranji season. However, he made a comeback in the white ball season and was part of the Mumbai team that won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also played some important innings, which made it clear that he can still show his flair in white-ball cricket.
Will the new environment help?
Many cricket experts believe that Prithvi now needs a new start. A new environment, a new team, and a new coaching setup may benefit him both mentally and in the game. Playing with a calm and sensible captain like Ruturaj can also give stability to Prithvi's career.
Now it will be interesting to see whether Prithvi Shaw joins the Maharashtra team or moves to some other team. One thing is certain: there is no dearth of talent; all that is needed is the right direction and environment, where he gets both trust and opportunities.
