I Get Disappointed...: Jasprit Bumrah On India's Fielding Woes After Day 3
Team India performed quite well in batting in the first innings of the test against England, but when it comes to their fielding, this team has lost a lot there. If we talk about day 3, then this match was being played in Headingley, where Jasprit Bumrah's whole effort was to put maximum pressure on the opposition batsmen, and he did that also but did not get that support from fielding, due to which England batsmen got a lot of help in gaining momentum. The Indian players dropped a lot of catches, due to which England got a lot of advantages, and they almost achieved the first innings total, but at the end, they were 6 runs short of achieving the target.
When Jasprit Bumrah was asked about this at the end of the game, he said,
"When catches are dropped, I get disappointed for a moment. It is a part of the game, and the players are new and are working hard. I don't want to create a drama and put too much pressure on them. No one is doing this intentionally. So they will learn from this experience,"
When Bumrah was bowling, the team had missed at least 4 catches, which gave life to the British batsmen, and they also took full advantage of it and made runs for the team.
The first catch was missed in the fifth over when Ben Duckett threw the ball in the gully, then Yashasvi Jaiswal could not catch the ball despite a full-length dive. After that, on the last ball of the seventh over, Ravindra Jadeja, who is considered one of the best fielders, misses a low chance catch.
Even after this, the Indian team did not learn from their mistake; due to that, Ollie Pope came into a very good position after scoring 60 runs. He played third slip and edged a ball, where Jaiswal had still planted his feet in the cordon but still missed an important opportunity. In such situations a lot of questions were raised about his experience and position.
The England batters took full advantage of the chances they got, and we also got to see how difficult it was for India to achieve success in the absence of Bumrah. Prasidh Krishna may have taken a wicket in the end, but he also gave away a lot of runs.
Now it will be interesting to see how well they be performing on Day 4, will they learn from their past mistakes or continue to do the same.
