IND vs ENG: Teams Observe Silence For Air India Crash Victims
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has begun with a five-test match series in Headingley. In this first test, everyone has noticed that players from both teams are wearing black armbands on their hands. But do you know why the players are wearing these armbands?
The players from both teams are wearing these armbands for those people who lost their lives in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad last week.
On 12th June, a London-bound Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft crashed into a hostel complex in which a total of 241 people, including the crew, lost their lives. Not only this, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani also lost his life in it, but there was one person whose luck was good and his life was saved.
England Cricket confirmed on social media and said further,
"Today both the teams will wear black bands in honor of those who lost their lives in the Air India plane crash. Our condolences to all those affected by the terrible events in Ahmedabad last week."
If we talk about the toss in today's match, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bowl first against India. Sai Sudharsan got India's test cap today, whose number is 317. This young player got his test cap from India's legendary player Cheteshwar Pujara. On the other hand, Karun Nair has once again got a place in the Indian test team after a full 8 years.
After winning the toss, England's captain, Ben Stokes, said,
"We will bowl. Headingley is a very good cricket wicket. We have played some very good games here. We want to try to use the starting conditions. It took a lot of time to come, but it is a bit strange that this is only the second test. The series is tough, but we are ready. It has been mixed; some boys have played county cricket, and we have played really good cricket for three days."
During the toss, Shubman Gill also gave a statement where he said,
"If we had bowled first, it could be a little difficult in the first session, but it would be good to bat later. The sun is out, so it should be a good batting deck for us. The preparation has been great; we have played a practice match at Beckenham, and the players are feeling very good. Sai has made his debut, and Karun has come. Sai will bat at number three."
