Never Walked Into A Team Without Them: KL Rahul Reflects On Absence of Kohli, Rohit In Dressing Room
India's star batter, and now it can also be stated that the experienced batter KL Rahul is missing his teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma a lot. In every series, one or the other of these players was always present with Rahul, but now that both the senior players have retired, it is strange for Rahul to go to the dressing room without them. The Ind vs. Eng five-match test series, which will start in Leeds on 20 June, will be the first series since 2011 in which the names of Virat and Rohit will not be there in the playing XI. Rahul made his Test debut under the captaincy of MS Dhoni when the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy was being played in Australia, but the most important thing is that Rahul, the Test batsman who he is now, became so under the captaincy of Virat.
In the last few years, whenever Kohli was not around, Rohit was always with Rahul in every series. But now suddenly the absence of both the players disturbs Rahul and the entire Indian cricket team, especially in the dressing room, but at the end life moves on. After the retirement of these senior players, it is now the responsibility of Rahul to contribute to the team as a senior, and he now has more responsibility than before.
Before the start of the first test, Rahul, while talking to his IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals, said,
"Virat and Rohit have been the pillars of Indian cricket for the last decade, and their absence will be a big loss. In my entire career so far, I have never gone to a team that does not have Virat or Rohit. In all the 50 Test matches I have played, either Virat or Rohit or both have been in the team."
Further, he said,
"It feels a bit strange to go to that dressing room. But of course, you have to respect their decision. They have given their everything for the country, and they will remain legends of Indian cricket. But now the time has come that the rest of us should also come forward."
This England tour is Rahul's third tour; he has scored 614 runs in 9 test matches against England with an average of 34.11, which also includes 2 centuries. His first hundred in Oval came in 2018 but at a losing cause. Three years after that, Rahul got his name registered on the Lords' honors board by scoring a brilliant century, due to which India got a very good victory of 151 runs.
Now it will be interesting to see how he will be contributing in the five-match Test series against England.
