Selectors Sideline Babar, Rizwan, & Afridi, From Pakistan's T20I Squad, Say 'Not Needed'

Veterans Babar, Rizwan, Afridi Miss Out on Upcoming T20I Series
Published on:

The T20I careers of Pakistan's brilliant players Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi are over now, and the team management and selection committee have told them that now there is no need for this trio in the team to play in this short format, at least for now. For the last 4-5 years, this trio has been considered the pillar of Pakistan cricket, and now they have been told that their names will not be there in Pakistan's T20I squad that will be playing against the West Indies and Pakistan.

If recent reports are to be believed, then PCB selectors Aaqib Javed, Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, and Asad Shafiq and newly appointed head coach Mike Hesson have informed these players that there is no place for them in T20I in the coming time and have now asked them to focus on ODIs and Tests. Pakistan's T20I squad will be announced sometime next week, and they will play against the West Indies and Bangladesh. This series will be played in July and August.

The men in green will tour the West Indies in the last week of July, where they will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs.

After playing with the Caribbean team, Pakistan will go to Bangladesh for a 3-match T20 series, but there are also talks of changing it to a 5-match series.

Pakistan also has to host Afghanistan in a T20I series at the end of August. All this is being done in preparation for the Asia Cup to be held in September (there is no confirmation about it yet) and the ICC World T20 Cup to be held early next year.

If sources are to be believed, then the selectors now want to give a chance to the upcoming young talent. These three senior players have not gotten a chance in the national T20 squad for Pakistan's last two series against New Zealand and Bangladesh. Not only this, but before that, Babar was also not looked at for the T20 series in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Australia.
