WTC Final 2025: Is There A Reserve Day For The Final?

Reserve Day Confirmed for WTC Final at Lords
Published on:

The stage is all set for the WTC final which will be played between South Africa and Australia at Lords from 11 June to 15 June. Everyone's opinion is dependent on this final as to which team will ultimately make history, whether Australia will again claim the title or South Africa will win the WTC final for the first time. But one thing that is on everyone's mind right now is that if there is any problem in between the match due to rain then what will be the situation again? Let us put a guess on the scenarios that if the WTC final between Australia and South Africa ends in a draw or tie, then the World Test Championship mace will be shared between both the finalists. These steps started from WTC final 2021.

Let us tell you that there is no rule like tie breaker or super over in test cricket. Unlike bilateral test series, where a draw simply means that there is no winner, being a championship final means that both the teams are made joint winners, moreover if no result is known.

Is there a reserve day for the final?

Yes, a reserve day has been kept for WTC final which is 16 June, and that will be used only if the session gets extended beyond the fixed timing, then only the reserve day will be used. A maximum of 90 overs can be added on the sixth day if required. If scheduled 5 days allow full innings with time for results - even if there are weather interruptions in it - and if there is an end or draw or tie then no reserve day will be used.

If we take a look at the price money which is set for the 2023-24 WTC cycle, then the winning team will get prize money of USD $ 3.6 million and the runner up team will get USD $2.16 million dollars.
