BCCI's Big Update On Jasprit Bumrah's Fitness For England Tests
India's five-Test match series is around the corner, and with that, there is a lot of discussion about Jasprit Bumrah before the series between India and England. Big names like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not in the team as they announced their retirement last month so Bumrah is one of the senior players present in the team. But the team's chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, has made it clear that Bumrah will probably not play in the entire series. After his back injury in the last series against Australia, the topic of his fitness and reducing the pressure of bowling in matches has become a major concern. However, former head physiotherapist of the National Cricket Academy Ashish Kaushik has suggested a slightly different suggestion to the BCCI and team management in this matter.
Ashish Kaushik stated that it is very important to increase the strength of the bowlers so that they can handle the load of bowling more easily. They have to be trained and conditioned properly, spend more time on the field and work on their fitness by running. With this, they will be able to bowl well in the second and third spells as well. Kaushik said that there is a specific 'workload' for every player, i.e. the amount of bowling and hard work, which is called 'acute to chronic workload ratio'. If this amount is too high or too low, then the risk of injury increases. Therefore, it is important that along with the bowling of the bowlers, their training, batting, fielding and strength work are also measured correctly. The sudden increase or incidence of any player's workload is not right, it can affect their performance.
Meanwhile, India's left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has again reached Kent ahead of the Test series against England, where he had played county cricket earlier. The 26-year-old Arshdeep has expressed hope of playing his first Test match in the Indian team. The team is playing a four-day tour match against India A at the Kent County Cricket Ground from June 13. Arshdeep is mainly known for his white-ball cricket, but his performance with Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 was also spectacular, earning him a chance in the Test team. He said that the purpose of today's training was to regain the speed and control of his bowling because for a long time the players were playing white-ball cricket.
He said, "We will gradually increase our preparation, which will make it more difficult for the batsmen to face the ball. Arshdeep's hard work can prove to be a big advantage for the team, especially in the challenging environment of Test cricket.
