Sameer Rizvi shines as Delhi Capitals chase down 207 against Punjab Kings
In a thrilling IPL 2025 match held in Jaipur, Delhi Capitals defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets to boost their playoff chances. Chasing a big target of 207 runs, Delhi finished the match in 19.3 overs, thanks to a powerful knock by young batter Sameer Rizvi.
Coming in at number five, Rizvi smashed an unbeaten 58 off just 25 balls. His innings was packed with 3 fours and 5 towering sixes. Tristan Stubbs supported him well with a calm 18 not out off 14 balls, which included two boundaries. Delhi’s chase began strongly with KL Rahul, who was brought in as an Impact Player. He scored 35 runs in 21 balls with six fours and a six. Skipper Faf du Plessis added 23 runs in just 15 balls, including two boundaries and one maximum. Karun Nair also played a vital role in the middle order, scoring 44 runs off 27 balls with five fours and two sixes. Sediqullah Atal chipped in with a quick 22 from 16 balls, hitting two sixes.
Punjab Kings’ bowlers found it tough to defend the total. Harpreet Brar was the most successful, picking up 2 wickets for 41 runs in his 4 overs. Marco Jansen and Impact Player Praveen Dubey took one wicket each.
Earlier in the match, Punjab Kings posted a competitive total of 206 for 8 after being asked to bat first. Skipper Shreyas Iyer played a captain’s knock, scoring 53 runs from 34 balls with five fours and two sixes. Marcus Stoinis played a blistering cameo, scoring an unbeaten 44 in just 16 balls, including three boundaries and four sixes. Jos Inglis also entertained the crowd with 32 runs off only 12 deliveries, smashing three fours and two sixes.
Delhi’s bowlers did well to pull things back in the later stages. Mustafizur Rahman picked up 3 wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam took 2 wickets each. Mukesh Kumar also chipped in with one wicket, but Mohit Sharma went wicketless.
This win helps Delhi Capitals stay in the hunt for the playoffs, while Punjab Kings will now need to bounce back quickly to keep their campaign alive.
