Mumbai Indians secured their spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs with a dominant 59-run win over Delhi Capitals in Match 63 at the Wankhede Stadium. Led by a classy knock from Suryakumar Yadav and clinical bowling performances from Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner, MI sealed their 8th win of the season and reached 16 points from 13 matches.
Batting first after Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl, MI were in early trouble. However, Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 73 off 43 balls, including 7 fours and 4 sixes. He was well supported by Naman Dhir, who smashed a quickfire 24* off just 8 balls in the final overs, taking the team total to a competitive 180/5.
In the chase, Delhi’s batting faltered under pressure. Without their regular captain Axar Patel, who missed the game due to illness, the Capitals never looked settled. Despite small contributions from Sameer Rizvi (39) and Vipraj Nigam (20), they were bowled out for just 121 in 18.2 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah once again led from the front with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 12 runs. Mitchell Santner was equally impressive, picking up 3 wickets for 11 runs in his 4-over spell. MI’s bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, never allowing Delhi any room to breathe.
With this victory, Mumbai Indians became the fourth team to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs, joining Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals, now stuck at 13 points, are officially out of the playoffs race even if they win their final league game.
This commanding win not only boosts MI’s confidence ahead of the knockout stage but also serves as a warning to the other contenders. With form on their side and key players stepping up at the right time, Mumbai Indians are once again looking like serious title contenders.
