The IPL was suspended last week due to India-Pakistan tension, but now the league is resuming after a ceasefire was agreed. Shaw's performance and fitness remain a matter of concern.
25-year-old cricketer Prithvi Shaw has been hoping to return to cricket for a long time. He was last seen playing during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy in December last year. On Wednesday, Shaw posted a cryptic story on Instagram ahead of the resumption of IPL 2025. The IPL was suspended last week due to the tension between India and Pakistan. However, the league is set to resume on Saturday, May 17, after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire. Shaw had kept his base price of Rs 75 lakh in this year's IPL auction, although he remained unsold.
Before the tournament resumed, Shaw shared a post on his Instagram story saying that he needed a break. Prithvi was once seen as a huge talent for Indian cricket, but for quite some time, poor form and fitness issues have severely affected his career. He was dropped from the Mumbai squad due to fitness concerns and was last seen playing during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, where his performance was again disappointing.
Punjab Kings' star batsman Shashank Singh, who has played with Shaw for Mumbai, elaborated on what could go wrong for him. Taking the name of Prithvi Shaw, Shashank made a list of players who he feels can become India's best opener in the future. He placed Shaw alongside the likes of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
During a podcast, Shashank said, "Prithvi Shaw has been underestimated. If he goes back to his basics, he can achieve anything. I have known him since he was 13 years old, when I played club cricket with him in Bombay. If you ask me what's wrong with him, he has a different perspective on certain things. "
