After the sudden retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir seeks full control over the team, aiming to end the superstar culture. He plans to ensure players participate in domestic cricket and select a younger team for the future. Shubman Gill is likely to become captain, aligning with Gambhir's vision.
The Indian star players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from Test cricket very suddenly, shocking everyone. It is being reported that the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir asked the BCCI for full control over the team. The report also states that Gambhir wanted to end the superstar culture in the Indian cricket team. The first thing he wants is that all players should feature in domestic cricket whenever they are free and available and behave in that particular way when they are on tours. The second thing is to come up with a team for the upcoming future.
If we look at the reports, then Gambhir plays a very big role in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's retirement. The star duo announced their retirement in a great hurry, just a week before India's squad selection for the England tour, after Gambhir and selector Ajit Agarkar informed them about management's plan to go ahead with a younger team.
This is the first time we can say a head coach is so active in the Indian cricket team. Earlier it was seen that the Indian team was run by the ruling captain, but now it does not seem like that.
When Gambhir was about to be appointed as head coach, it was being reported that he wanted everything according to his wish, and now it looks like it is going the same as his wish. It is being observed that Gambhir has his say in policy-making, squad selection, and other team-related matters as the captain, and now that the senior players Virat, Rohit, and Ashwin have all retired, the responsibility of taking all the decisions comes into his hands.

He might be the upcoming superstar but still hasn't reached the level where he can take such big decisions without any talks with a senior. The only cricketer who could do it is Jasprit Bumrah because he can counter Gambhir's tactics.
However, Bumrah would not be getting the captaincy, as there are many injury concerns with him. He is very precious as a fast bowler, and his workload needs to be managed, so this is one of the main reasons he would not be given the captaincy. He was the vice-captain in Rohit Sharma's tenure and has led India in three tests in England and Australia.
Therefore, there are high chances that Gill will be given the chance to lead the Indian Test Team.
