In a report on Saturday, it was reported that Virat Kohli has informed the BCCI about his desire to retire from Test cricket. The report also states that the BCCI wants Virat to play the five-match Test series in England, but he has not yet responded to the board's request. Confirming this, a BCCI source said that the board has requested Kohli to take time before deciding on retirement.

A BCCI official said, "He is still fit. His presence in the dressing room excites the entire team". We have requested them to take some time before taking a final decision."

Now another report has claimed that Kohli has requested the BCCI to give him Test captaincy. However, their demand was rejected by the board, as they wanted someone younger to take the team forward.

"A new WTC cycle is beginning. As far as the team is concerned, the future and consistency have to be kept in mind. Even Coach Gautam Gambhir wants a set of players with whom he can work for a long time. There can be no stopgap solution for such an important chain.
