Virat Kohli Plans Test Exit, BCCI Urges To Reconsider Decision Ahead Of England Tour
Virat Kohli has announced his intention to retire from Test cricket, prompting the BCCI to urge reconsideration with the England tour approaching. This decision follows Rohit Sharma's retirement and poses challenges for India's Test team, which will face a lack of experienced players in the middle order. Kohli's future in Test cricket has been uncertain since his poor form in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The Indian star batter Virat Kohli has informed the Indian cricket board that he wants to retire from Test cricket, but the officials have asked him to think a bit more and reconsider such a big decision.
The source states that,
"He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up. He is yet to revert on the request."
The 36-year-old's decision came just after 3 days of his teammate Rohit Sharma's test retirement. Indian selectors were about to meet in a few days to select the team for the upcoming five-Test series in England starting next month.
It is also being stated that Kohli has been thinking about his future in Test cricket since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he went through a poor form, scoring a century in the Perth Test.
If Kohli stood firm on his decision of retirement, then the Indian Test team will be left with an inexperienced middle order, with KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal being the top order and Rishbah Pant down the order.
The team will be left out without two senior players getting retired at a same time. Virat was handed over the Test captaincy by MS Dhoni in December 2014 and he took the red-ball format to heights under his captaincy which is still remembered by everyone.
Now, his decision will be playing a very key role in the upcoming England series.
