The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) main character, energy MS Dhoni been quite missing from the past two days in a row from practice sessions. The clash before Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 7, Wednesday, at the Eden Gardens, it is being reported that Dhoni has missed the practice sessions, raising questions about his fitness. Currently, he is leading the team in the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is out of the tournament due to injury. Now, the topic of concern is: will MS be playing the few games left of the season, or is it the end of his career?
Meanwhile, there is a sign of relief for the fans, as CSK's bowling coach Eric Simons reassured that the 43-year-old wicketkeeper batter will be taking the field against KKR.
He said,
"Yes, he's expected to play tomorrow."
"With regards to MS, he knows his situation very well. He knows where he is. In terms of his preparations, he always works very hard at the beginning of a tournament and then allows himself to taper off because he gets himself in a space where he's ready. So no issues; he just knows when he is prepared and when he's not."
The appearance at the Eden Gardens could turn out to be the last at this iconic venue of MS. IPL 2025 proved to be one of the worst seasons for CSK, with them becoming the first team to get eliminated from the tournament.
With regard to all these things, Simon lauds Dhoni for his great influence on the team and ability to nurture every young talent present in the franchise.
"You see MS Dhoni as the cricketer; we always see MS Dhoni as the man who is a remarkable individual. His influence on the team, his ability to nurture Rutu, to nurture young cricketers, is what's legendary about him."
Further, Simon stated that when Gaikwad also leads the team, there is a silent strategist behind the team, which is him. No matter whether he is the captain or not, he always stands for the team.
"His influence is always there. Sure, he now makes the final decision on movements of fields, but his influence – whether he was captain or not – was always there without imposing. He doesn't impose himself on anybody."
It is being stated that the match against Rajasthan Royals on May 12 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium can be Dhoni's last game, as in an earlier statement he stated that his last match will be in Chennai. The official confirmation is yet to come on this topic.
