Indian cricket team's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has urged a halt to all cricket matches against Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, where the Indian Army retaliated against a terror attack in Kashmir. Gambhir emphasized that no sporting event is worth risking lives in the escalating conflict between the two nations, stressing that government decisions should prioritize national security.

Indian cricket team's head coach Gautam Gambhir has called for the postponement of all matches against Pakistan until the escalating conflict between the two countries is resolved. On Wednesday morning, the Indian Army fired several missiles on Pakistan-controlled land, in retaliation to the terror attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam last month. Gambhir described Wednesday's attacks as an act of war. Political conflict has been going on between the two countries for decades, but now it is growing rapidly.

The two cricket teams have not played any bilateral series against each other since 2013, but in ICC tournaments such as the World Cup, Champions Trophy and Asian tournament 'Asia Cup', both teams face each other. Pakistan hosted the Champions Trophy earlier this year. However, India refused to go to Pakistan. Instead, the ICC allowed India to play all the matches of the tournament in the UAE.

After 'Operation Sindoor' on Wednesday, Gambhir agreed that the two countries should not meet on the field, even if it is at a neutral venue. "My personal answer is no... Nothing should happen between India and Pakistan. Ultimately, it is the government's decision whether we play with them or not. I have said before that no cricket match or Bollywood or any other interaction is more important than the lives of Indian soldiers and Indian citizens. Matches will happen, films will be made, singers will continue to perform, but there is no greater sadness than losing a loved one in your family," Gambhir said.

"It's not up to me, it's not in my jurisdiction, it's up to the BCCI and more importantly , the government to decide whether we should play with them or not. Whatever decision he takes, we should completely agree with it and not politicise it," he said. "
