Punjab Kings Climb to Second with Win Over CSK in IPL 2025

Match 49 of IPL 2025 was played between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first. CSK opened their innings with young batters Sheikh Rasheed and Ayush Mhatre. However, both failed to make a mark. Rasheed was dismissed for 11 off 12, and Ayush followed soon after, scoring only 7 off 6 balls. At No. 3, Sam Curran stepped up and delivered a stunning performance, smashing 88 runs off just 47 deliveries, including 9 fours and 4 sixes.

Ravindra Jadeja, coming in next, chipped in with 17 runs off 12 balls, while Shivam Dube could only score 6 runs. Towards the end, MS Dhoni added a quick 11 off 4 balls, which included one four and one six. But the real turning point came in the 18th over when Yuzvendra Chahal picked up a sensational hat-trick, his second in IPL history, dismantling the CSK middle order.

Chennai were bowled out for 190 in 19.2 overs. Chahal starred with the ball, finishing with figures of 4 wickets in his 4-over spell. Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen also bagged 2 wickets each. In reply, Punjab’s in-form openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh gave a solid start, adding 44 runs for the first wicket. Priyansh scored 23 off 15 with five boundaries, while Prabhsimran anchored the chase with a classy 54 off 36 balls, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes.

Captain Shreyas Iyer then played a match-winning knock, scoring 72 runs from 41 balls, including 5 fours and 4 sixes. Although Nehal Wadhera was dismissed cheaply for 5, Shashank Singh came in and finished the game in style with 23 runs off 12 balls.

Punjab Kings chased down the target with 4 wickets in hand and moved up to No. 2 on the IPL 2025 points table. Chennai Super Kings, after this loss, continue to remain at the bottom, placed 10th
