Delhi Capitals Triumph Over Lucknow Super Giants By 8 Wickets
Delhi Capitals triumphed over Lucknow Super Giants by 8 wickets in the 40th match of IPL 2025. After restricting LSG to 159/6, thanks to Mukesh Kumar's 4/34, DC chased the target in just 17.5 overs. KL Rahul's 57 and Axar Patel's unbeaten 34 sealed the victory, strengthening DC's position on the points table.
The 40th match of the IPL 2025 was played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. After winning the toss, DC skipper Axar Patel opted to bowl first — a decision that paid off handsomely as their bowlers restricted LSG to a modest 159/6. The batters then chased down the target with ease in just 17.5 overs.
Batting first, LSG openers gave the team a solid start with Mitchell Marsh scoring 45 runs off 36 balls, while Aiden Markram smashed a quick-fire 52 from 33 deliveries. However, the middle order couldn’t capitalize on the platform. Nicholas Pooran was bowled for just 9, and despite a handy 36 off 21 from Ayush Badoni towards the end, LSG couldn’t finish strong. David Miller remained unbeaten on 14, while skipper Rishabh Pant was dismissed for a golden duck on the last ball of the innings.
Delhi’s bowling attack was led by a fiery spell from Mukesh Kumar, who grabbed 4 wickets for 34 runs in his 4 overs. His ability to strike in the middle overs derailed LSG’s momentum. Starc supported well with 1/25 in 4 overs, while Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel maintained the pressure with tight spells.
Chasing 160, Delhi got a good start from their openers Abhishek Porel smashing 51 runs. Though Karun Nair lost his wicket early for 15 runs, but his dismissal didn’t slow things down. The chase was made easy by KL Rahul, who played a composed knock of 57 runs, and Axar Patel, who remained unbeaten on 34.
The duo stitched a solid partnership, ensuring there were no hiccups in the run chase. Delhi Capitals chased the target in just 17.5 overs, showcasing complete control over the match.
Lucknow’s bowlers struggled to make an impact in their 9th match against DC. Markram was the only wicket-taker, who was able to pick two wickets. Shardul Thakur and Ravi Bishnoi gave away many runs and failed to provide breakthroughs, which ultimately cost LSG the game.
Delhi Capitals won by 8 wickets and strengthened their position on the IPL 2025 points table with a dominant win away from home.
