Gujarat Titans Triumph Over Kolkata Knight Riders By 39 Runs
Gujarat Titans secured a convincing 39-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 39 of IPL 2025 at Eden Gardens. Shubman Gill’s commanding 90-run innings and a strong opening partnership set a challenging target of 199. Despite Ajinkya Rahane’s 50, KKR struggled and managed only 160 runs, ensuring Gujarat Titans remained top of the points table.
The 39th match of the IPL 2025 was played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titansat the Eden Gardens. KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bowl first, but Gujarat’s top order ensured a commanding start that set the tone for the rest of the game.
Gujarat Titans’ openers, Sai Sudharsan and captain Shubman Gill, gave their team a flying start with a solid 114-run partnership for the first wicket. Sai Sudharsan played a steady knock, scoring 52 runs off 36 deliveries, hitting six boundaries and a six at a strike rate of 144. On the other hand, Shubman Gill led from the front with a classy 90-run innings off 55 balls, laced with 10 fours and three sixes. His innings was the backbone of Gujarat’s total.
Coming in at No. 3, Jos Buttler continued his fine form, adding 41 runs off just 23 balls with eight boundaries, keeping the momentum going in the death overs. However, Rahul Tewatia couldn’t contribute much, getting out for a duck in just two deliveries. Shahrukh Khan scored a quick 11 runs off 5 balls. Gujarat Titans ended their innings at a competitive 198 for 4 in 20 overs, setting KKR a challenging target of 199.
Chasing 199, KKR had a rough start as opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz, returning to the side, was dismissed for just 1 run in the first over by Mohammed Siraj. His opening partner Sunil Narine added 17 runs before falling to Rashid Khan in the final over of the powerplay.
Captain Ajinkya Rahane held one end steady, playing a crucial knock of 50 runs off 36 balls with five boundaries and one six. But the rest of the batting order failed to support him. Venkatesh Iyer struggled for rhythm, scoring 14 off 19 deliveries, while big hitters like Andre Russell (21), Ramandeep Singh (1), and Moeen Ali (0) failed to make an impact.
Youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi played a quickfire innings of 26 off just 12 balls in the end, but it wasn’t enough to bridge the gap. KKR managed 160 runs in their 20 overs, falling short by 39 runs.
With this comprehensive win, Gujarat Titans picked up their sixth victory of the season and continued to sit at the top of the IPL 2025 points table.
