Gautam Gambhir Did Not Oppose Abhishek Nayar's Dismissal: Report
Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir did not protest against the sacking of assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. According to the report, Gambhir had included Nair in his support staff, but after a poor performance in the Test series against Australia, the BCCI decided to remove him. Gambhir did not oppose this decision and paid more attention to his recommendations.
A few days ago, it was revealed that the BCCI decided to remove the assistant coach of the Indian team, Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T Dilip. Now it has been revealed in a report that the head coach of the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir, did not oppose the sacking of Abhishek Nayar.
Gambhir appointed Nayar as part of his support staff soon after becoming the head coach and they have been together since their stint with Kolkata Knight Riders. When the BCCI decided to remove Gambhir's coaching staff after a poor performance in the Test series against Australia, he did not oppose the decision. The report said that Gambhir was more concerned about retaining bowling coach Morne Morkel and other assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, both of whom had their own recommendations.
A BCCI source told a news agency, "Gambhir did not oppose Nayar's dismissal. It took a lot of negotiation to get Ten Doeschate and Morkel into the team. There is no way he would let them go so soon. "
The Source further said, "The board officials took feedback from the senior cricketers and some were not happy with Nair's role in the dressing room. He was informed a few days ago that his contract had not been renewed. Fielding coach T Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai are also set to step down after completing more than three years in their respective positions."
The BCCI's new Standard Operating Procedure has limited the tenure of the support staff to three years. It has also been learnt that India's first strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux is likely to be back for a second stint. He is credited with introducing the new fitness culture in the Sourav Ganguly-led Indian team during the 2003 World Cup.
