Dewald Brevis Joins CSK As Gurjapneet Singh's Replacement For IPL 2025
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South African batter Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remaining IPL 2025. The 21-year-old, known as 'Baby AB', joins CSK for INR 2.2 crore. Brevis has played 81 T20s, scoring 1787 runs, and previously represented Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
The five-time winning champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South African batter Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of IPL 2025. The ex-Mumbai Indians player will join CSK for INR 2.2 crore.
Brevis had a base price of Rs 75 lakhs in the mega auction, but the franchise has bought him for a hefty amount for the remaining tournament. The 21-year-old player is also known by the nickname 'Baby AB' because of his looks and playing style.
BREVIS CRICKET CAREER
He has played 81 T20s and has scored 1787 runs with a highest score of 162 and has played two T20Is for South Africa in 2023. Before CSK, he represented Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL, where he played ten matches between 2022 and 2024, having a strike rate of 133.72 in the IPL. Talking about his stats in List A cricket, he has played a total of 25 matches, scoring 1065 runs at an average of 48.40.
Before signing Brevis as the replacement for injured Gurjapneet Singh, CSK had already signed Mumbai player Ayush Mhatre to replace their skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad.
CSK will be locking horns with their arch-rivals in the next match against the Mumbai Indians on April 20, Sunday, at the Wankhede Stadium.
