Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya steer MI to victory against SRH

In Match 33 of IPL 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, Mumbai Indians (MI) registered a solid 4-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), picking up their third victory of the season. Chasing a target of 163, MI reached the total with 11 balls to spare, despite a few hiccups along the way.The chase started cautiously with Rohit Sharma taking time to settle. Once in rhythm, he smashed three big sixes but couldn’t convert his start into a big score and was dismissed for 26 off 16 balls. Will Jacks got an early life when Travis Head dropped him at just 4 runs. He went on to build a small but crucial partnership with Ryan Rickelton.

Zeeshan Ansari brought a twist in the sixth over when he troubled Rickelton with three dot balls and eventually got him out, only for it to be overturned as wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen had committed a no-ball by gloving the stumps. Rickelton, who had started walking back, returned and made the most of it, hammering Harshal Patel for back-to-back boundaries before getting dismissed for 31.

Jacks and Suryakumar Yadav then stitched together a brisk 52-run stand off just 27 deliveries, rotating the strike smartly. But Pat Cummins had other plans, dismissing SKY for 26 and later removing Jacks for 36 to bring SRH back into the contest.

However, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya held their nerves in the final overs and ensured MI crossed the finish line without any further damage.

For SRH, skipper Pat Cummins was the standout performer with figures of 3/26 in 4 overs. Eshan Malinga and Harshal Patel chipped in with a wicket each but lacked consistent support from the rest of the bowling unit.

Earlier in the evening, after being asked to bat first by MI captain Hardik Pandya, SRH struggled to find momentum. Openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma got a few lucky breaks but couldn’t capitalize. The side failed to hit a single six in the first 10 overs.

Sunrisers only found some rhythm in the final few overs, with Cummins finishing the innings with a maximum to push their total to 162 — a score that ultimately proved insufficient against a determined Mumbai side.
