Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag recently made a suggestion that Mahendra Singh Dhoni should have faced suspension for one of his actions during the 2019 IPL season. MS Dhoni, also known as 'Captain Cool', was at the centre of a no-ball controversy during a match against Rajasthan Royals in the 2019 season.  

Dhoni, who is known for his calm and composed nature on the field, surprised the entire cricketing fraternity, including his fans, the day he came on the field to challenge the on-field umpire's decision. The incident took place in the 25th match of the season when a high-waist ball was not given a no-ball by the leg-umpire, which was exposed by the intervention of the third umpire.

The incident was widely criticised, with former cricketer Virender Sehwag taking a particularly strong stance.

"I think Dhoni was let off easily and should have been banned for at least two or three games. Because if he did that, tomorrow any other captain can do the same. So what exactly does an umpire contribute?"

Despite this controversial incident, Dhoni helped Chennai successfully chase down the target of 152 runs that day, with Mitchell Santner hitting a six to end the match. However, that season Chennai Super Kings lost a close encounter to Mumbai Indians after reaching the final.

Dhoni has played a key role in Chennai Super Kings winning five IPL titles under his captaincy. Dhoni is one of India's most respected cricket captains. In the IPL 2025 season, Dhoni is once again seen captaining Chennai. Ruturaj Gaikwad took charge of the team in the first five matches of this season, but after his injury and being out of this season, Dhoni has been handed over the responsibility of captaincy.
