Neeraj Chopra and PM Modi Unite to Fight Obesity in India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday gave an inspirational message by quoting a social media post by Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. Neeraj Chopra had said in his post on the social media platform X that you don't need to be an athlete or a fitness enthusiast to stay healthy. In the post, Neeraj shared an article.
"An enlightening and inspiring article written by Neeraj Chopra, which emphasizes the need to fight obesity and stay healthy.
Earlier, Neeraj Chopra shared an article on his ex account and wrote in the caption,
"You don't need to be an athlete or a fitness enthusiast to stay healthy. The fight against obesity is something that we have to face head-on. Let's all come together and support Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi ji's dream of making India fit!"
"When I heard Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to fight obesity in India, it touched my heart. I already knew what being overweight struggles to have, what stigma it carries and what big a difference sport and fitness can make. My own journey – from an overweight kid to an Olympic podium – has been the result of determination, the right mindset and a disciplined approach. If we have all these approaches, we can overcome any obstacle.
Neeraj further wrote that obesity is not just related to physical appearance, it is related to health and well-being. Today, India is witnessing an alarming rise in obesity across all age groups. Childhood obesity is becoming a serious concern, as more and more young people are opting for a sedentary lifestyle due to fast food, too much screen time and lack of physical activity. This not only affects their physical health, but also their mental health, lowering their self-esteem and increasing the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
