ICC Questions Matthew Kuhnemann's Bowling Action Following Sri Lanka Series
Australia's left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann was part of the team in the recently concluded two-test match series against Sri Lanka. He made a significant contribution to Australia's 2–0 win. However, he has now been reported by the ICC for questionable bowling action. Kuhnemann became the highest wicket-taker in the Test series against Sri Lanka. He took 16 wickets in two matches at an average of 17.18 and played a big role in his team's victory. Matthew Kuhnemann made his international debut in 2017. However, this is the first time that his bowling action is being questioned.
Cricket Australia also issued a statement about Kuhnemann and said they would remain in contact with the ICC and their would be no further comments from Kuhnemann or the board until the matter is resolved.
A Cricket Australia spokesperson said,
"The Australian team was informed of the referral from match officials following the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle and they will support Matt in the process of settling the matter. Matt has played 124 professional matches since his debut in 2017, including five Test matches and four One-Day Internationals. He has played 55 Big Bash League matches since 2018."
He further said,
"This is the first time in these eight years of professional cricket that his action has been questioned. Cricket Australia will work closely with the ICC and independent experts in accordance with the rules of the ICC. There will be no further comment from Cricket Australia or Matthews until the matter is resolved."
Kuhnemann can play domestic cricket until the action is evaluated. However, if he fails the evaluation, he will be banned from bowling. This ban will continue until he improves his bowling action and passes the test.
