Virat Kohli was seen practising with the Indian team. Before the first ODI, Kohli suffered a knee injury and for this reason, he was out of the team's playing XI. Jaiswal opened with Rohit Sharma but failed to make a strong impression in his first ODI. Yashasvi was dismissed for just 15 runs in the 5th over. Indian captain Rohit also failed to perform well and was dismissed for only two runs. However, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer took over the innings. Both scored 87 and 59 runs respectively. The same Axar Patel also made a significant contribution and gave victory to the Indian team chasing 249 runs.
