Kapil Dev Backs Rohit Sharma Amid Criticism, Hopes For Quick Return To Form
The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma's criticism is taking no name to stop; one after the other, he is getting criticized for his performance in international cricket. Looking at his last 5 innings in international cricket, he has scored 2, 3, 9, 10, and 3. After failing to perform in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, there were hopes of him making scores in the ODI series against England. But once again he failed to score runs, managing to score only 2 runs while playing 7 balls. If we look at his stats, then the last time he was able to cross 50 runs was in October 2024. According to the latest reports, it states that a big transition will come in the Indian team after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The upcoming tournament will prove to be a do-or-die one for the Indian skipper. The Champions Trophy 2025 will kick off on February 19.
Former Indian skipper and 1983 World Cup-winning skipper shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma's recent performances. He said,
"He is a big player. I hope he returns to form quickly. I will say good luck to the coach. It takes time to settle in. The whole country is looking forward to the side's performance. In recent times, the side played well for some time. The team looks unsettled. When the captain's form is poor, the team has problems."
Further, he stated that the current team has not done well; it's okay; fans are angry at the moment. He recalled the time when India won the T20 World Cup 2024; he stated that moments and fan reactions were crazy; this type of thing he had never seen in his life.
"The team has not done well; it's justified that the fans are angry. When these players came back after winning the T20 World Cup, the crazy scenes I had never seen in my life. So, when they do badly, criticism follows. That's why I say, don't praise the players so much that they can't handle it. And then criticize them below the belt. This is my thought."
Kapil Dev also talked about Bumrah's unavailability in the team and stated that when a big player gets unfit, then it surely affects the team.
"There is no doubt about that. In the last two years, no other fast bowler has had so much impact. When a big player like Bumrah or Anil Kumble gets unfit, it does impact the team. I hope he recovers soon enough."
