'No Chance Of Him Playing...': Sanju Samson's Finger Injury Rules Him Out Of Competitive Cricket

Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson suffers finger injury, out of action

Indian star wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson fractured his index finger in the fifth T20I against England on Sunday, February 2, at the Wankhede Stadium. He was hit by England pacer Jofra Archer off the third ball, which came with a speed of 150kmph. Due to this, he will have to stay away from competitive cricket for over a month.

According to some reports, it is being stated that Samson has returned to his home base, Thiruvanthampuram, and will start training after completing his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He will be requiring NCA's green light to make his comeback in competitive cricket, which means that he will not be featuring in the upcoming Ranji Trophy quarterfinals against Jammu and Kashmir.

A BCCI source stated,

"Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets. So there is no chance of him playing the Ranji Trophy quarter-final for Kerala (vs. J&K) in Pune from February 8-12."

"In all likelihood, his comeback will happen in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals."

Samson went through a poor form in the series against England, getting dismissed in the same manner in the whole series. In this series he scored just 51 runs in five matches, 26 being his high score in the opening match at Eden Gardens, and he is not part of the ODI series. He was seen getting disturbed by the spells of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, and Saqib Mahmood, getting out mostly within the powerplay only.

The 30-year-old who was selected for the team after delivering tremendous knocks against Bangladesh and South Africa, smashing 3 hundreds in seven matches, didn't make it to the Champions Trophy because he didn't play a single match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
