Former India's wicketkeeper-batter opened Wriddhiman Saha up on his exit from Team India in 2022, stating that there was no injustice done to him, but a decision was made according to the need of teams. On January 30, Thursday, he played his last match at Eden Gardens in Bengal's Ranji Trophy against Punjab, ending his illustrious career. He was among India's most celebrated wicketkeepers; his international career was almost ended in 2021. The reason behind his international career in 2021 was when the skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid chose KS Bharat as Rishabh Pant's backup in the team. This decision proved to be a turning point in his life, and he has nothing inside his heart about that.

Talking about the decision of the captain and coach, Saha said,

"I wouldn't call it injustice. That would be selfish. Maybe it wasn't just one person's decisions. Maybe I wasn't capable enough or didn't deliver as expected, so they made their choice. If I had performed better, this wouldn't have happened. I don't dwell on it—I just take the positives from whatever comes my way."

The 40-year-old stated that if he were on the team, then he would have contributed with good catches or innings. He also said that he tried his best for Bengal; in slip fielding, he hasn't missed a single catch.

"I've always been like this. It's my choice to be carefree. I don't seek attention. I just want to remain the same humble player on the field. I've always been comfortable with that. I've never been an emotional person, even as a child. There's no special sentiment about playing my last match. I'll go out with my friends like always."
