Vinod Kambli's Wife Reconsiders 'Divorce' Amid His Health Issues
Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli's second wife, Andrew Hewitt, finally opened up on her marriage and husband's drinking habits. The couple married in a private ceremony in a civil court in 2006.In a recent interview, she revealed that she had filed for divorce with Kambli but took it back after seeing his condition amid his struggle with drinking alcohol, for which he underwent rehabilitation at least 14 times. He celebrated his 53rd birthday in the hospital with the staff and family members.
Kambli's condition is no more hidden from the world. In a recent event for the 50th anniversary of the Wankhede Stadium, organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), he was seen struggling while walking. At that time, his wife Andrea helped him in walking when he was going to the stage to receive his award from former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar.
In a recent podcast, Andrea revealed that once she thought of separating from Kambli, but after watching his condition, she took a step back from her decision to get a divorce.
"I once thought about it (separating). But I realized that he would be helpless if I left him. He is like a child, and that hurts me. It makes me feel worried. I would not even leave a friend, and he is obviously more than that. I remember there were moments when I would just walk away. But then I would be worried: Has he eaten or not? Is he on the bed properly? Is he okay? Then I had to check on him, and I would understand that he needed me."
It is to be noted that the couple has two children, a son, Jesus Christiano Kambli, and a daughter, Johanna.
Further, Andrea said that his son Cristiano helped her a lot in taking care of Kambli and understood the situation.
"Most of the time, I had to explain the situation to myself: I am 'Papa,' and I am the 'mom' in the family. My son Cristiano understood everything; he didn't bother me at all; he understood all the emotions on my face."
"I just tried to understand the situation. I try to look after her mental health and try to cheer her up. I also take care of him (father)."
