Virat Kohli To Make Ranji Trophy Comeback For Delhi Against Railways
The Indian star player Virat Kohli is all set to return to the Ranji Trophy after almost 12 years. He is expected to play for Delhi in the next match, which will start on January 30. It is reported that he will miss the match against Saurashtra on January 23 due to a neck injury. However, sources from the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) confirmed on Monday that he will be available for the upcoming match against Railways from January 30 to February 2.
Sources stated that,
"Virat Kohli is available for the Ranji Trophy fixture against Railways on January 30. He had some neck stiffness, so he wasn't available for the match against Saurashtra. We are really happy that he has decided to represent Delhi after all these years."
It's not just about Kohli, who will be playing in the Ranji Trophy, but several other players will also be seen playing in the tournament. Along with him, both Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja confirmed their availability for the match. While Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal will also be featuring in the games.
The 36-year-old has played 23 Ranji Trophy matches for Delhi, scoring 1574 runs at an average of 50.77, smashing five centuries. The last game he played in Ranji was in 2012-13 against Uttar Pradesh, scoring 57 runs. He had a brilliant season in 2009-10 where he scored 374 runs at an average of 93.50 in just three matches.
At present, Kohli was seen struggling a lot in scoring runs in Test cricket. In the recently concluded Test series against Australia, he managed to score only 190 runs, despite scoring a century in Perth. In the five-match Test series, he repeated the same mistake every time while chasing the deliveries outside the off stump, which led to his dismissal in the whole series.
The last round of the Ranji Trophy will end on February 2, and after that, the whole Indian team has to play the ODI series against England. The first match will be played in Nagpur on February 6.
