Sanju Samson's Father Blames KCA Officials For Son's Champions Trophy Snub
The star Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson was not able to make it to the Champions Trophy 2025 squad. After this, the batter's father, Samson Viswanath, criticized the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) and some officials in the cricket board who are creating hurdles in his son's opportunities in the game. His reaction came after Sanju was not able to make his place in India's Champions Trophy squad. It is being reported that Samson's decision to skip the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 didn't turn out to be in his favor, and that is the reason he was not considered in the squad despite scoring a century in his last ODI and T20Is against South Africa.
The 30-year-old was part of India's T20 World Cup 2024-winning team and led Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year. Earlier, KCA secretary and president had said that Sanju was ignored for skipping the team's three-day preparatory camp in Wayanad. However, according to Sanju's father, it was already decided that Sanju would not be selected for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He slammed the KCA for holding grudges against his son and also said that the decision of him not getting a spot on the team was made a long time before the tournament.
Sanju's father said,
"There are people within KCA who have something against my child. We've never spoken out against the association before, but this time, it has become too much. Sanju isn't the only one who didn't attend the camp; yet other players in the same situation were allowed to play."
Further he added,
"It's not about Jayesh George (KCA President) or Vinod (KCA secretary); it's some small people in between who turn everything into poison over trivial matters."
Currently, Samson is in Kolkata preparing for the T20I series against England, which will kick off on January 22.
