28-Year-Old Indian Pacer Ruled Out of Champions Trophy Due to Back Injury
Indian pacer Akash Deep took five wickets in two matches of the BGT series in Australia, although he had to be ruled out of the Sydney Test due to a back injury. Since then, he has been under the supervision of the National Cricket Academy and has not started bowling. Talking about his current condition, the 28-year-old bowler said that he has been instructed to take complete rest for two weeks.
During an interview, Akash Deep said,
"All is well and my recovery is in the right direction and since I have been playing non-stop cricket for a long time, I have been advised rest for 15 days. I am following NCA's advice and as soon as they instruct me to start bowling, I will do so. "
The Bengal pacer made a notable contribution during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, though his performance in terms of wicket-taking was not very good. But his batting garnered a lot of appreciation. In the third Test played in Brisbane, Akash Deep helped India save the follow-on.
Talking about his bowling style, Akash Deep emphasized on the importance of consistency and patience and said,
"My effort was to maintain discipline, bowl in good areas and wait for the batsman's mistake. It doesn't matter if the ball is new, half new or old. "
Akash Deep is not in contention for the ICC Champions Trophy but his fellow Bengali pacer Mohammed Shami is set to make a comeback to international cricket. After being absent for more than a year, Shami will return to the Indian team in the upcoming England T20 series. After this, he can also be selected for the Champions Trophy starting in February.
