Gautam Gambhir Rebukes Morne Morkel Over Discipline, Abhishek Nayar's Future Uncertain
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) is busy resolving conflicts and problems that are going on in India's Test team. Now, it has emerged that there's something wrong between head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel, as they had an argument during the recent Australia tour. Sources revealed that Morkel arrived a bit late due to a personal meeting on tour. The BCCI sources said that Gambhir is very strict about discipline; he, on the ground, lashed out at Morkel.
"Gambhir is very strict about discipline. He reprimanded Morkel immediately at the ground. The board has been told that Morkel was a bit reserved during the rest of the tour. It's up to these two to sort it out for the team to function smoothly."
It has also been observed that BCCI is keeping a strict eye on the performance of support staff. It is being stated that Abhishek Nayar's performance is under the scanner, and the board has asked the players if he is bringing anything new to the table.
"Batting coach Abhishek Nayar is particularly under the scanner. Gambhir himself has been an accomplished batter. The board has asked the players if Nayar is bringing anything new to the table. Similarly, the assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate's role is being discussed. His lack of international experience and ability to contribute to enhancing an international cricketer's performance has been questioned."
The board is now in the state of thinking the contracts of support staff are two to three years.
"The board feels loyalty issues creep in after the coaches spend a lot of time with the team. But it has benefited from a sidearm specialist who offers throwdowns."
