Pat Cummins' Ankle Injury Puts Champions Trophy 2025 Participation In Doubt
The Australian chairman of selectors, George Bailey, shared an update about Pat Cummins that he is set to undergo scans on his ankle after participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has already been out of the Sri Lankan tour due to paternity leave, as he and his wife are ready to welcome their second child. Now, the recent updates state that he might not be available for the Champions Trophy 2025, which will commence on February 19.
Bailey on Cummins's injury and his participation in the Champions Trophy stated that
"Pat's obviously on paternity leave for the next little bit. Not really sure yet. We'll have to wait and see where that scan comes back and where it's tracking."
At the current time, the Australian players are going through some or other injury. Cummins is not the only player who is struggling with injury, but Mitchell Starc also experienced niggles during the fourth Test but managed to play the Sydney Test. Moreover, Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the series due to a calf injury after the Gabba Test.
Earlier, it was reported that Hazelwood might miss the Sri Lanka tour, but Bailey showed some confidence in his recovery. He said,
"He's working really hard, and all the news on how he's responding to the calf injury is coming along really well. It was just probably a little bit tight (for this squad) given the amount of time he would've missed. Looking at how we may structure those loads for the quicks, it just worked out that, unfortunately for him, he didn't quite get there in time. But we're really confident he should be fit and raring to go for the Champions Trophy."
Australia won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 against India after almost 10 years. With this win they made their spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final with South Africa.
