Ravi Shastri Applauds Pat Cummins' Leadership In Australia's BGT Triumph

Shastri Praises Cummins for Leading Australia to BGT Series Win

Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri applauds Pat Cummins for his exceptional performance both as a skipper and player. Although the Aussies didn't get a good start in the opening Test of the series at Perth, they made sure to end the series on a good note. They made a powerful comeback in the series from the second Test and made sure to win the series by 3-1.

The Border-Gavaskar series 2024-25 turned out to be a tremendous one for the Australian skipper Pat Cummins. He brought back the BGT to Australia almost after a decade; Australia won their last BGT in 2014-15.

"I admire his determination, his willingness to compete" - Ravi Shastri

In an interview, Shastri said that Cummins always amazes him through his willingness to compete and the power to never give up.

"He (Cummins) amazes me. Even when I was the coach in the dressing room, I would just admire his determination, his willingness to compete. He never gives up, and it's like that session after session—he'll come at you with the ball."

The 62-year-old praised him for bringing Australia into the game against India as a captain, not only with the ball but with the bat too.

"And just when the chips were down, at various times in the series, he rose to the occasion. And not just with the ball, but with the bat as well."

The 31-year-old was the second-highest wicket-taker in the series with 25 wickets at an average of 21.36, after Jasprit Bumrah, who was the leading wicket-taker with 32 wickets at an average of 13.06. Cummins also scored 159 runs with the bat at an average of 19.88.

Australia won the Sydney Test by 6 wickets, which ended India's hope of making it to the World Test Championship (WTC) final and them booking their spot with South Africa. Both the teams will be competing with each other at Lord's.
