Rohit Sharma Denies Retirement Rumours, Cites Poor Form For Sydney Test Absence

Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma Denies Retirement, Cites Poor Form For Test Absence

The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma rubbishes all the reports and states that he is not retiring from the game. He opted to step out from the Sydney Test just because of his poor form, not being able to score runs. In a recent interview with Star Sports on Day 2 during lunchtime in Sydney, Rohit said that the decision of not playing in the Sydney Test was a bit difficult, but it was for the favour of the team and doesn't change anything for his future, not retiring anytime soon.

Rohit said,

"Like I told you, this decision is not a retirement decision, nor am I going to step aside from the game; there is no such decision. I am out of the game because the bat is not working."

Further, he said that they have seen a lot in cricket, and every minute, second, life changes. He believes in himself and thinks that things will change but has to be realistic as well.

"There is no guarantee that the bat will not work after five months; there is no guarantee that the bat will not work after two months. We have seen a lot in cricket; every minute, every second, everyday life changes. So I have this belief in myself that things will change, but at the same time, you know, I have to be realistic as well."

The 37-year-old stated that no one from the outside can force or tell him when he should retire or step down from captaincy. He also said that he is a sensible, mature man and has a brain.

"Someone is sitting inside with a mic or a laptop or a pen. What he writes, what he says, our life does not change because of that. We have played this game for so many years, so they cannot decide when we should go or when we have to sit out or when we should captain. Sensible aadmi hoon, amture aadmi hoon, do bachhon ka baap hoon, mere paas thoda sa dimaag hai! (I am a sensible man; I am a mature man; I am a father of two kids, so I have a little bit of brain.)"

When he was walking off the field, he once again made it clear and said,

"Main kahin ja nahi raha. Idhar hi hun (I am not going anywhere; I am here only)."
