Sourav Ganguly Comments On Rohit Sharma's Future Amid Struggles In Test Cricket

Ganguly Questions Rohit Sharma's Future Amid Test Cricket Struggles
Published on:

The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma once again failed to score runs in the Melbourne Test and lost his wicket to Pat Cummins in the second innings. It is seen that Rohit is struggling a lot to score in Test cricket, having managed to score a little above 150 runs in the last 14 innings. Now, as his poor form continues in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a lot of questions are being raised about his presence in the playing XI and even about his captaincy and role in the Indian team.
Former Indian skipper and Board of Control for Cricket President (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly, did not hesitate to comment on Rohit's future in the team. He said that Rohit is not able to score runs and has left with the innings in Sydney now to show his power.

"Rohit Sharma is not able to score runs. He played a loose shot in the first innings. There is a second innings here in Melbourne and two more innings in Sydney, so he needs to play well. India will need Rohit to fire."

"Don't know where Rohit is mentally" - Sourav Ganguly

Further he said that it is very difficult to comment on anything about him as he doesn't know where Rohit is mentally.

"I don't know where Rohit is mentally. It is very difficult to comment right now."

Rohit missed the first Test in Perth due to some personal reasons; in his absence, Jasprit Bumrah led the team, and they won by 295 runs. However, he made his comeback in the pink-ball Test but failed, scoring 3 and 6 in the Test. In the third Test he managed to score only 10 runs, and in the Gabba Test he also failed to score runs, scoring 3 and 9 runs, proving to be a reason of concern.

"Virat is not playing badly, but just getting out" - Sourav Ganguly

Talking about Virat Kohli, Ganguly said that he is not playing badly but just getting out.

"Virat Kohli is not playing badly, but just getting out. He scored a century in Perth, was set in the first innings (Melbourne), and was playing nicely."

Virat Kohli got dismissed on 5 runs off 29 balls by Mitchell Starc, leaving Yashasvi Jaiswal alone. Currently, India stands at 33/3 and needs to score 307 runs in 65.5 overs to win the Melbourne Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
