Washington Sundar Confident of India's Comeback in MCG Test Against Australia
Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar is confident of making a comeback despite India's poor position in the ongoing test at the MCG. India trailed by 310 runs on the second day and lost five wickets but Sundar believes that the visiting team has a lot of time left in the Test to make a comeback. At the time of writing, the Indian team has scored 315 runs at the loss of 7 wickets on the third day. On the second day of the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, India struggled to stay in the match as Australia tightened their grip on the match. After scoring 474 runs in their first innings, Australia restricted India to 164/5 at stumps, leaving the visiting team in a huge crisis.
"We will still bounce back and continue fighting tomorrow morning," Sundar said in the press conference after the second day's play on Friday. The energy in the dressing room is great, we're all positive, and there's still plenty of time in the game. It will be an attempt for our team to work hard and get the job done. Starting their innings at 311/6, Australia scored 163 runs on the second day. Steve Smith scored a brilliant 140 runs in another masterclass performance, while captain Pat Cummins scored 49 runs to take the score to 474.
Sundar credited his former India teammate Ravichandran Ashwin for his preparation in Australian conditions. Ashwin, who retired after the third match at the Gabba, gave Sundar valuable insight into how to succeed in a spin-friendly environment. "Obviously, I have had a lot of conversations with Ashwin, especially about how the conditions pan out in Australia. I got a lot of information because they have been here many times. We talked a lot before we came on this tour. Someone of his calibre to share his knowledge and experience with him has definitely helped me," said Sundar.
