Shubman Gill Hits the Gym After Being Benched for Fourth BGT Test

Shubman Gill Focuses on Fitness After Exclusion from Fourth BGT Test

The Indian team management decided to bench Shubman Gill for the fourth BGT test in Melbourne. The management chose to sit Gill and instead go with Washington Sundar as an additional spinner because of mounting concerns about his form. The 25-year-old made his return in the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide, when he scored 31 and 28 runs, respectively, after suffering an injury in the first Test in Perth. He made just one run at Gabba.

In the meantime, Gill was seen hitting the stadium gym during the opening session of Day 1 after being dismissed from the fourth Test at MCG. He spent some time with T. Dilip, India’s fielding coach. Shubman Gill has played 12 test matches in 2024, scoring 866 runs at an average of 43.30, which is more than both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma combined. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel, who played the first test, was seen hitting the nets.

The Australian team got off to a great start in the Melbourne test. The 19-year-old Sam Konstas made his debut in the fourth test and got off to a fantastic start by playing aggressive cricket and smashing a half-century. The young debutant took on Indian veteran Jasprit Bumrah and hammered him for 32 runs in two overs. He hit him all across the ground.

Konstas’ dominating batting helped Usman Khawaja settle on the crease, who also scored a half century. Khawaja was ultimately dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah after scoring 57 runs off 121 balls. There were questions about his form, but the knock will help him to finish the series on a high note. So far, the hosts are having a great day at MCG, with their current score being 172/2. The Indian team will have to scalp some wickets if they want to make a comeback.
