Ahmad Shahzad Criticizes Pakistan Cricket After Third T20I Series Defeat of 2024
The Pakistan team is going through a tough patch in T20I cricket. The team has recently lost a series to South Africa, which was also their third series defeat of 2024. Earlier this year, Pakistan lost to New Zealand, England, and most recently, South Africa, but they were able to defeat minnows Ireland and Zimbabwe this year. Now, Pakistani cricketer Ahmad Shahzad has expressed his criticism for the squad and the board for their subpar performance. According to him, “Pakistan cricket is dying,” and those who are to blame are dozing off.
“To be honest it was a good game to watch as a spectator… but it felt like South Africa A & Pakistan A side were playing against each other with some players has the ability to fit in senior side from both the countries.. If you know you know. Just a reminder 7 main players are absent from this South Africa side & we played with our full strength & we lost the series once again just like we lost against Australian kids in T20s few days ago. Pakistan cricket is dying everyday & everyone is sleeping from top to bottom. Shame,” wrote Shehzad on X.
South Africa won its first T20I bilateral series since August 2022 thanks to Reeza Hendricks’ maiden T20I century. The Proteas defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets in the second game at SuperSport Park. Following Pakistan’s crushing 206 for 5 on the board, South Africa needed something exceptional from its players.
With David Miller’s absence, all eyes were on South Africa’s lineup, wondering who may step up to take his place. The question remained unsolved until Hendricks entered the game and delivered a brilliant performance. Rob Walter won his first T20I series since assuming the white-ball coaching position in March 2023 thanks to his batting exploits.
