Former DC Coach Urges Prithvi Shaw To Improve Fitness After IPL Snub

Prithvi Shaw Needs to Lose 10 Kgs for Match Fitness, Says Ex-Coach Amre

The right-handed batter Prithvi Shaw is in the radar of everyone after he got unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. No one showed interest in bidding for him in the mega auction, which was a bit shocking because he was the kind of player who was being compared to many batting legends when he was at the peak of his career. The former Delhi Capitals player set his base price at Rs 75 lakh in the auction but still remained unsold.

Former Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Pravin Amre worked closely with him during his coaching tenure. He was part of the management when Delhi bought Prithvi Shaw during the IPL 2018 auction by spending Rs 1.2 crore.

Amre feels that Shaw needs to work on himself and regain his lost form. He also commented on Shaw’s weight, asking him to lose it and become fit. According to him, the thing that is stopping him is his fitness. He believes that Shaw is god-gifted, but the thing is that he is his own enemy. Even if this thing continues and he doesn’t work on himself, then no one can motivate him.

“What we want, to be honest, is that he loses 10 kgs and becomes match fit. What is stopping him is his fitness. Nobody has a doubt about his cricketing skill. He is God-gifted, but the problem is he is his own enemy. Now, I don’t think anybody can motivate him.”

Further, he said that everyone tried, but now he has to motivate himself. He should go practice and hit the gym and nets both.

“Everybody tried, and I think he has to motivate himself now. Nobody else can help him. If you are going through a tough time, go and hit the nets. He has to hit the gym and the nets both.”

In IPL 2024 he played a total of 8 matches, scoring 198 runs at an average of 24.75 with one half-century in the season, having a highest score of 66.
