India's Test legend Cheteshwar Pujara believes that Jasprit Bumrah has all the qualities to become a great captain. Pujara said the BCCI should seriously look at Bumrah as the captain of the team after Rohit Sharma's retirement. Recently, under the captaincy of Bumrah, India defeated Australia by 295 runs in the Perth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2025 and registered a spectacular victory.

Jasprit Bumrah took over the captaincy of the team after Rohit Sharma could not play in the Perth Test due to personal reasons. This was the second time that Bumrah captained India, having previously led the team against England and Australia.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Pujara said, "There is no doubt that he can be a captaincy option for a long time. They have performed brilliantly in difficult conditions. Whether it is the home series or the first Test match in Australia, he has shown that he can lead the team. ”

"Bumrah is a team player. He doesn't just think about himself but talks about the team and other players. He also gives advice thoughtfully. That quality makes him a good captain. ”

Bumrah's calm nature and simplicity

Pujara also praised Bumrah's simplicity and his friendliness in the dressing room. "Sometimes the player doesn't need advice and Bumrah understands that. If there is an experienced player, he keeps quiet. That's the sign of a good captain. He is very down to earth and is always willing to help with the players. Even outside of cricket, he is a humble man. ”

India's team had lost the three-Test series 3–0 to New Zealand before the tour of Australia, which weakened the team's confidence. But under the captaincy of Bumrah, the team made a strong comeback.

Rohit Sharma's comeback

Rohit Sharma will return to the team for the second Test starting December 6 in Adelaide. With this, Jasprit Bumrah will hand over the captaincy responsibility to Rohit and will focus on giving his best as a bowler himself.
