Mohammed Shami's Return In Doubt After Suffering Another Injury
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami's return to domestic cricket has once again come under question due to injury. Shami complained of lower back pain during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh on Friday. The incident happened when Bengal had to save 22 runs and Shami was bowling with his full strength.
During the match, Shami was seen undergoing treatment from the physio on the field due to back pain. However, he completed his over after first aid, but the incident remained a cause of concern for the Bengal team. Shami's injury has again raised questions about his fitness, especially after returning to the field after a long break of almost a year.
Shami has been out of international cricket for the past one year. A serious ankle injury and surgery ruled him out of important series against South Africa, England and New Zealand. His absence affected the Indian fast bowling lineup. However, he made a brilliant comeback with 7 wickets against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy and tried to make his mark again in white-ball cricket in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
DOUBTS OVER SELECTION IN BORDER-GAVASKAR TROPHY
After Shami's recent performance, it was expected that he would make his return to the Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But the latest injury has raised new concerns about his fitness and selection.
Bengal suffered a defeat despite Shami's economical 9-run over in the match. Madhya Pradesh won by 7 wickets, all credit goes to the brilliant innings of Rajat Patidar (68 runs) and Subhranshu Senapati (50 runs).
Now it has to be seen how soon Shami can return fit and whether he will be able to confirm his place in the Indian team again or not.
