England Players will not take part in Pakistan Super League, ECB Stance on NOC
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has recently announced that their players will be fully available in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the next three seasons. However, the board has banned English players from playing in any such league, including the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which clashes with England's domestic season.
According to the report of The Telegraph, the ECB has taken this decision to maintain the quality of domestic cricket and strengthen its competitions. This decision will apply especially to leagues that are scheduled with England's domestic tournaments such as Vitality Blast and The Hundred.
ECB bans 'double-dipping' of players
According to the new ECB policy, players can no longer participate in any tournament that clashes with domestic cricket. Also, players will not be allowed to participate in leagues which are suspected of corruption.
ECB Chief Executive Officer Richard Gould said,
"We have to preserve the integrity of our game and the strength of England and Wales competitions. This policy gives clarity to players and counties. It will help in providing players with experience and earning opportunities in foreign leagues as well as maintaining the quality of our domestic tournaments and ensuring the well-being of the players. ”
PSL and IPL clash
There may be a change in the schedule of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to be held in 2025, as the ICC Champions Trophy is also to be held at the same time. The next season of the PSL is likely between March and April, which is clashing with the likely schedule of the IPL (from March 14).
England's key players for the IPL such as Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and Reece Topley have already been bought by various franchises in the auction. The auction was recently held in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.
Due to this decision of the ECB, the earnings of many English players may be affected, but the board believes that this will improve the level of domestic cricket.
